Some of the health benefits attributed to the consumption of soy protein:

Soybeans have been a nutritional staple in Asia and other parts of the world for thousands of years. Until just recently in North America and most of the West, some of the few people who appreciated the health benefits of soybeans were vegetarians. Recently though, the awareness in the West of soy based foods remarkable health benefits has increased dramatically. In countries like Japan, soy based foods like Miso and Tofu are a daily part of the diet and are typically consumed with every meal. Unfortunately it is very difficult to incorporate soy based products in beneficial amounts into the Western diet. BioSoy, with 13 g Soy Protein per serving is the solution.

  • May reduce the risk of coronary heart disease by significantly reducing LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels.

  • Soy Protein contains the complete range of amino acids in a highly digestible form in the optimum levels.

  • Soy Protein containing isoflavones may provide beneficial effects on reducing atherosclerosis progression (buildup of plaque) .

  • Soy isoflavones may protect against cancers of the breast, endometrium and prostate. IP6 (inositol hexaphosphate) also called phytate, is a naturally occurring substance found in soy protein. Recently, media coverage of IP6 has been increasing due to studies showing that IP6’s antioxidant functions have the ability to damage cells that cause or promote cancer. IP6 may not only suppress the body’s production of free radicals and inhibit lipid peroxidation, but may also affect the basic mechanisms regulating cellular growth, effectively extending its applications to both cancer prevention and treatment. Inositol (another naturally occurring substance found in soy protein) is reported to enhance IP6’s cancer fighting ability.

  • The soy Isoflavone Genistein has been shown to inhibit certain enzymes involved in cancer cell growth and regulation, and to prevent the new blood vessel growth (angiogenesis) that is necessary to feed growing tumors.

  • Several studies have shown that diets rich in soy products or supplemental isoflavones increase bone density and strength, and reduce calcium excretion in the urine, indicating that soy may be important in the prevention of osteoporosis. This health benefit is largely due to the presence of daidzein. Daidzein is a metabolite of a compound know as ipriflavone, which has been shown to inhibit bone loss.

  • The ability of isoflavones to bind to estrogen receptors is also important for controlling menopausal and premenstrual symptoms. By mimicking the role of estrogen in the body, soy isoflavones may be helpful for women who produce too little estrogen (as is the case during menopause) or too much estrogen. A recent study showed that postmenopausal women who consumed soy products for 12 weeks experienced a 40% reduction in hot flashes.

  • Soy lecithin is an important dietary source of choline. Phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine are two types of choline that have been the focus of recent research. Phosphatidylserine is a vital nutrient for brain cell membranes. Several clinical studies indicate that phosphatidylserine improves learning, concentration, mood, and age-related memory loss. Phosphatidylserine has also been shown to improve athletic performance by suppressing the catabolic stress hormone, cortisol.

  • Phosphatidylcholine is a major building block for all cell membranes. The liver, with its vast area of cell membranes is particularly dependent of phosphatidylcholine. Clinical studies reveal that phosphatidylcholine helps individuals recover from toxic liver damage.

  • Another component of soy, oligosaccharides provide food for beneficial intestinal bacteria, thereby helping to promote proper balance of microflora.

  • Soy protein containing isoflavones may also prevent stroke.

Grape Seed Extract (Activin®) has been shown to inhibit the three stages of carcinogenesis (the formation of cancer cells). The stages are initiation, promotion and progression. Research on Activin shows that it provides much greater protection against oxygen free radicals and free radical-induced lipid oxidation and DNA fragmentation (cancer producing) than vitamins E and C, in mice. These results show that Activin is absorbed from the body, when taken by mouth, and prevents cellular damage. In another study Activin was shown to be a more powerful inhibitor of tobacco induced oxidative stress and programmed cell death in human oral mucosal cells than Vitamins E and C.

Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract (Protykin®) is over 400 times more potent than grape-derived Resveratrol products and has been shown to possess antioxidant, antimutagenic and cardioprotectant properties. This compound also contains high levels of emodin, another naturally occurring substance shown to possess antimutagenic, antibacterial and gastroprotectant properties.

Folic Acid taken at conception and for the first three months of pregnancy greatly reduces the risk of serious birth defects, including spina bifida and is important in fetal development helping produce beneficial chemicals for the brain and nervous system. Folic acid may also reduce heart disease and stroke risk as well as lowering the risk for several cancers.

Vitamin E is a powerful fat-soluble antioxidant vitamin. This superstar nutrient, protects against free-radical cell damage which may play a role in preventing cancer, blood clots, protect against heart attack and stroke, lower risk of heart disease, retard the aging process, improve the immune function, slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease, delay or prevent cataracts, and protect against pollutants including secondhand smoke.

Vitamin C, an antioxidant vitamin also helps the body recycle other antioxidants. Vitamin C, as an antioxidant helps protect against cancer and heart disease, strengthen capillaries and cell walls, promote healing, enhance immunity, help prevent cataracts, and may even lengthen life.

Calcium maintains strong bones and teeth and helps prevent progressive bone loss and osteoporosis. Also reported to aid heart and muscle contraction, nerve impulses, and blood clotting. May help lower blood pressure in people with hypertension, ease heartburn and moderate mood swings associated with PMS.

Iron provides mental and physical energy and helps your immune system function properly.

Magnesium is involved in energy production, nerve function, muscle relaxation, and bone and tooth formation. It may help protect against heart disease and irregular heartbeat, ease fibromyalgia symptoms, lower high blood pressure, reduce the severity of asthma attacks, and improve symptoms of PMS and menstrual cramps.

Phosphorus along with calcium helps build bones, strong teeth and aids in maintaining a healthy strong skeleton.

Zinc plays a critical role in cell growth, healthy immune system, helping to fight colds, flu and other infections, boost fertility, and build healthy hair.

Inulin is a soluble dietary fiber but is not yet recognized as fiber in the U.S. for product label purposes. The true Fiber content of BioSoy™ is 7 g per serving, not the 1 g as per the labels Nutritional Facts. Inulin also increases feces volume and transit time, increases beneficial bacteria such as bifidobacteria and lactobacillus and improves intestinal flora.
