GABA (Gamma Aminobutyric Acid)

GABA or Gamma-aminobutyric acid, discovered in 1950, is the most important and widespread inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. Excitation in the brain must be balanced with inhibition. Too much excitation can lead to restlessness, irritability, insomnia, and even seizures. Barbiturates and benzodiazepenes are known to stimulate GABA receptors, and hence induce relaxation. Several neurological disorders, such as epilepsy, sleep disorders, and Parkinson’s disease are affected by this neurotransmitter. GABA is made in the brain from the amino acid glutamate with the aid of vitamin B6.

    Common Uses for GABA:

  • Induce relaxation, analgesia, and sleep.
  • Antihypertensive (1-4 g/day), anodyne, calmative, diuretic, inhibit CNS neurotransmitters with vitamin B6, restorative, tranquilizer.
  • Inhibit neuronal activity resulting in states of mental calmness and serenity.
  • Promote muscle relaxation.
  • Decrease body fat levels and increase lean muscle tissue by stimulating the brain to secrete increased amounts of HGH (Human Growth Hormone)
  • Help the pituitary gland to secrete Human Growth Hormone
  • Experience less discomfort and exhibit a higher threshold of pain tolerance for training and competing athletes.

DOSAGE: For general use: Take 1 capsule 2 or 3 times daily, preferably with juice or water on an empty stomach. For athletes, body builders, and HGH release: GABA should be taken on an empty stomach prior to sleep. The recommended dosage is 2 grams (4 capsules) per night and this dosage should not be exceeded. Athletes looking for maximal results should take 1 gram (2 capsules) prior to sleep, set their alarm for three hours later and wake up to take another 1 gram dose before going back to sleep. The reason for this staggered dose is that Human Growth Hormone is secreted in the first two hours of sleep. If an individual repeats both GABA administration and their sleep cycle twice in the night then maximal Growth Hormone levels can be expected. For HGH release, GABA should be taken prior to sleep as it will not work unless followed by sleep. Some people may experience a "flush" or tingling in the face and neck, as well as an increased heart rate immediately following administration of GABA. This is a common response and is not harmful.
